Lot Essay

The female figure is represented by the Baga in a number of ways for different purposes, amongst which are the busts with naturalistic heads and full breasts worn by young men at the final coming-out of the girls from initiation. These go by different names such as Zigiren Wunde (the young bride), Komo or ra Bomp ra-Feth (Baby Head), Simogine (Sacred Woman), or Yokui - the last two in the Susu language (see Lamp, F., La Guinée et ses Héritages Culturels, Conakry, 1992)
