The drawing in this lot and the following lot were probably done during one of the Cannes jury meetings, although they don't appear to have been used for festival posters or programmes.
Jean Cocteau was honorary president of the Cannes Film Festival, and a member of the jury for a number of years. He was involved with the festival almost from its outset. In 1946 he described the festival as ...a living comet that has touched down for a few days on La Croissette...The festival is an apolitical no-man's land, a microcosm showing what the world could be if people could communicate directly with one another and speak the same language...
