Jennifer Wilt's husband, William worked as a stagehand for various Hollywood studios, including MGM, Warner Bros and 20th Century Fox from the 1930s-1960s. During his career he became friendly with make-up artist Gordon Bau, and together they made a hobby of collecting film star memorabilia.

In the letter included in this Lot, Mrs Wilt states....We were at the studio one day and Miss Garbo was wearing the ring. I mentioned to Miss Garbo how pretty it was. She remarked that it was just a ring. The next day Bill came home with it and told me Miss Garbo had given him the ring to give to me.
