Lot Essay

It is believed that this hat is one of a large number of items sold, or given to charity, when the BBC's Lime Grove studio closed in 1991. The hat was subsequently sold at a sale in Derby to benefit the RSPCA.

Tony Hancock (1924-1968) is considered to be one of Britain's greatest comic geniuses, best loved for his work on radio, and later his popular television series Hancock's Half Hour.
