A George III oak longcase clock with rocking chronos figure, last quarter 18th century
The hood with stepped lunette arch and breakarch glazed side panels, with breakarch trunk door, the plinth with raised on bracket feet, the 12in. wide brass dial with bird and urn spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, the centre silvered and engraved, with subsidiary seconds ring and arch date aperture, applied with a later plaque signed Jas. Foster/Ashburton, blued steel hands, the arch with later silvered and engraved Chronos figure rocking against a painted background, with later strike/silent lever below, the eight day movement with four pillars, anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; adaptations -- 82½in. (210cm.) high
