An English mahogany longcase clock
The breakarch hood with glazed side panels, outset columns with brass stop-fluting to the front, later brass finials, the breakarch trunk door with moulded frame, with conforming panel to the plinth, the 12in. square brass dial with later applied arch centred by a silvered disc engraved with an eagle, with cherub and coronet spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed John Lewis/LONDON, with sword hilt half hour and crucifix half quarter hour markers, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring, ringed winding holes and date aperture with engraved border, hands now black painted, the eight day movement with five ringed pillars, anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell; case circa 1770, dial and movement circa 1710 -- 86in. (219cm.) high
