A George III Scottish mahogany and brass-mounted striking table clock, circa 1790
The case with brass handle to bell top flanked by urn finials, glazed side panels, with thumbnail mouldings to the front angles, on later feet, the brass-lined front door with later winged cherub mounts, the brass dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with dot minute track, silvered centre engraved with trailing flowers and with flowerheads around the winding holes, with mock pendulum and date apertures, blued steel hands, with subsidiary rings for strike/silent and regulation to the arch above, conjoined by a plaque signed Alexander Dickie/EDIN.R, the eight day twin wire fusee movement with five pillars, verge escapement and strike on bell, the back plate engraved with leafy scrolls and with flowerheads to the fusee arbors, secured to the case with bolts through the lower pillars -- 20¼in. (51.5cm.) high to fold of handle
