The three-tier box with inset brass plaque to the top and applied bone signature plaque to the front, drop-down side handles, brass gimbal and bowl, the 4¼in. (11cm.) diameter silvered Roman dial, with up/down ring, signed in the centre Charles Shepherd/MAKER TO THE ROYAL NAVY, 53 Leadenhall Str.t London.1143, with subsidiary seconds ring below, gold spade and double swell hands, the chain fusee movemenmt with spot-finished plates, Earnshaw escapement with cut bimetallic balance and cylindrical heat compensation weights, blued steel helical balance and flat spring detent -- 7½in.
