The Bentley marque has been associated with the south of France since the 'Bentley Boys' famously beat the time taken by the Blue Train to travel from Cannes to Calais. In keeping with this, the Cote d'Azur provides beautiful open top motoring and the word azure is often used when describing the colour of clear blue sky hence a logical naming choice for Bentley's open top luxury sports car. Designed in partnership with Pininfarina, the Azure was launched on March 7th 1995 and was met with widespread admiration and order books quickly filled despite the £215,000 price tag.

Specification was generous and featured a power hood with single button operation that recessed into an enclosed compartment with speed and ease. The steering column had an automatic tilt function for ease of entry and ability to achieve the optimum driving position helped by the three position memory seats for the front occupants. The automatic ride control system would adjust the suspension in a split second to ensure smooth handling and the familiar turbocharged V8 could, if required, propel the Azure to 60mph in a shade over six seconds en route to a possible 150mph.

Beautifully presented in a Wild Berry livery this Azure was registered on the 1st August 1995. The owner had maintained a long relationship with Jack Barclay in Berkeley Square and in reflection of this he was promised the first customer delivered example.

Displaying just 5,595 miles when recently inspected, this Azure truly belies it's nine years. Literally a couple of stone chips are present on the front of the car, a door opening chip was spotted on the driver's door and a minor scratch noted on the offside rear wing (none of which require attention) but the paintwork overall is like new and produces the most amazing sheen. Similarly the interior looks almost untouched, some light veining is evident on the driver's seat, but again does not need tending to, the carpets are unblemished and in strikingly attractive contrast to the lightly leathered seats the centre console, steering wheel and dashboard top are trimmed in body matching burgundy. The engine bay is beautifully detailed and from new the car has been periodically serviced, initially at Jack Barclays and since 2000 the work has been entrusted to P & A Wood, the last such visit being in June this year.

With the model now out of production, this must be a unique opportunity to acquire an 'as new' example; its condition is a testament to the vendor's attention to detail. With the Azure's exclusivity now cemented, this marvel of a motor car would be a worthy addition to any collection.
