FIRST EDITION OF THE FIRST WORK DEVOTED TO A DESCRIPTION OF THE VALVES OF THE LYMPHATICS. "Ruysch's demonstration of the presence of these valves... settled a controversy between anatomy professor Johannes van Horne and Louis de Bils, an unqualified anatomist who had denied the valves' existence" (Norman 1874 [lacking one plate]).
