Lot Essay
Mr. Geddes and his greyhound Glory appear at the extreme right of the painting by Ansdell entitled Caledonian Coursing Meeting at Ardrossen (1844; Yale Center for British Art). The Caledonian Coursing Meeting of 1844 was held at Ardrossan, Ayrshire, Scotland on 26, 27 and 28 March; the results were reported in the Sporting Magazine, 1844, p. 341. The stewards at this meeting were the Marquess of Douglas and the Earl of Eglinton. The picture was commissioned by the Club's committee, and paid for out of members' subscriptions.
