FIRST OCTAVO BIBLE and first book printed by Johann Froben, who was the founder in Basel of a family publishing dynasty that made the city one of the most important centres of scholarly publishing until the middle of 16th century. Froben was aware of the novelty of this new portable format. This Bible, called in the preface by the printer himself Bibliola, played an important role in defining the readership of the coming Reformation.
