ESCHUID, Johannes (fl. mid 14th century). Summa astrologiae judicialis. Venice: Johannes Lucilius Santritter for Franciscus Bolanus, 7 July 1489.

Super-chancery 2° (303 x 206mm). Roman type, double column, woodcut depicting Macrobius' world map, woodcut initials, some initial spaces, (a few wormholes in the inner margin of the first quires, marginal dampstaining mainly in the last quires, some browning.) 18th-century vellum over pasteboards, manuscript title on spine, sprinkled red edges (some spots, corners worn). Provenance: 18th-century inscription on the second leaf -- Manhart (19th-century inscription).

FIRST EDITION. Eschuid was one of England's most prominent astrologers in the 14th century, using astrology to investigate the date of Creation, rather than developing theories to reveal the future. It is likely that the woodcut diagrams were made by the printer himself, as Santritter was known to be a student of astronomy and astrology.
