NICOLAUS DE AUSMO (d. 1453). Supplementum Summae Pisanellae. ASTESANUS DE AST (fl. 1st half of 14th century). Canones poenitentiales. Venice: Franciscus Renner de Heilbronn and Nicolaus de Frankfordia, 1474.

Chancery 2° (293 x 210mm). Gothic type, double column, with first blank, the final blank a stub, initials in red, the first with decorative infill, rubricated. (Very occasional light dampstain or spotting.) Contemporary brown pigskin over wooden boards, diapered panel on sides, brass corner-pieces and two fore-edge clasps, evidence of label on front board and of chain-staple on rear board, quire guards from a Hebrew manuscript on vellum (leather darkened, scuffed with several tears, some wear at spine). Provenance: unlocalised house of Reformed Franciscans (early inscription erased from first page) -- partly inked deaccession stamp.

A fresh, large copy of the second of two editions printed at this press in the same year. The work is a digest of canon law arranged alphabetically for easy reference and, as the title indicates, it is Nicolaus's supplement to Bartholomaeus de Sancto Concordio's Summa. The type used in the headline makes its first appearance here. H *2153; BMC V, 192; Goff N-60.
