Chancery 2° (238 x 179mm). Gothic type, double column, initial spaces. (Title-page partly defective without loss, a number of marginal repairs, some headlines shaved, wormtracks in some inner margins in quires f-h, a few spots and some light browning.) 19th-century calf-backed marbled boards (rebacked preserving original backstrip, backstrip worn). Provenance: early title insciption -- Friedrich von Thudichum, German legal historian (inscription dated 1857).
Second edition of Ganfredus' outstanding collection of canon law. Ganfredus played an important role in the papal struggle against Emperor Frederick II and supported the papal position with his Summa. HC *15599; Polain(B) 4377; Voull(K) 433; Goff T-424.
