ELVIS PRESLEY CHIEF DEPUTY BADGE AND DEPUTY APPLICATIONS
A Shelby County, Tennessee Chief Deputy badge with "Elvis Presley" engraved near the top and "#6" near the bottom, as well as Presley's signed two-page application to be deputized, and the signed documents allowing him to carry a weapon. All papers are dated November 20, 1974 and signed by Presley in black ballpoint ink. The badge represents the culmination of Presley's aggressive efforts to receive an official deputyship from the local sheriff's department in Memphis. The signed accompanying documents, filled out in Presley's hand have him answering questions such as "To what extent do you drink? (Answer: Don't drink)." Also present is a letter of authenticity.
