Processional icon of the Mother of God Smolenskaia
With the reverse with Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker; The Mother of God of the Hodegitria type, traditionally painted in sombre colours, shown half length with Crist child in her left arm, halo with floral scroll decoration; Saint Nicholas shown half length with his right hand in blessing and left holding the Bible, with Christ and the Mother of God in roundells at his soulders, on deep green ground, framed.
Russia, possibly Pskov, 16th Century.
20¾ x 18 5/8 in. (52.8 x 47.4 cm.) without frame.
