Lot Essay

This fauteuil has a pierced back with a trépied à l'antique pattern typical of the celebrated family of furniture makers, Jacob. It appears on a pair of fauteuils stamped by Georges Jacob (illustrated in L. de Groër, Les arts décoratifs de 1790 à 1850, Fribourg, 1985, p. 23). It features also on a pair of fauteuils stamped by Jacob Frères (illustrated in M. Beurdeley, Jacob et son temps, Saint-Rémy-en-l'Eau, 2002, p. 15) and on an unstamped fauteuil in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris (illustrated in G. Janneau, Les Sièges, Paris, 1967, p. 171).
