Lot Essay

The sitter was the daughter of Sir Thomas Twisden, Bt., of Bradburne, Kent, one of the Judges of the Court of the King's Bench. This portrait was painted after her marriage to Sir Thomas Style of Wateringbury, as his second wife. A companion portrait was also painted of the sitter as Miss Margaret Twisden before her marriage and sold as lot 335, Wateringbury Place, Maidstone, Kent, Christie's House Sale, 31 May - 1 June 1978. Lady Style died on 5 December, 1718.
