The white-japanned commodes with gilt enrichments, serpentined bases and voluted feet reflect the George IV 'French' or 'Chippendale' style produced by 'Manufacturers of Superior Furniture', such as the Oxford Street firm of upholsterers and cabinet-makers Messrs. Miles and Edwards (F. Mallett, Miles and Edwards of London, Furniture History, 1970, pp. 73-80, and pls. 37A and B).
