The settee, with its reed-wrapped columnar legs is designed in the robust Grecian style introduced during George IV's Regency, while Roman acanthus flowers its tablets and wraps the voluted arm-trusses in the Louis Quatorze fashion such as the Oxford Street firm of Gillow introduced in one of their 1819 room schemes (M. Jourdain, Regency Furniture, London, 1965, p.105)
