Each with rectangular top on twin column supports joined by a stretcher and arched legs, the underside of the largest inscribed in chalk 'Best Landing', the next largest inscribed in chalk 'Steward's Room', the third largest inscribed in chalk 'Table from Lav(?) on Best Landing', one stretcher replaced, two now with centre stretchers, the columns on the largest table moved

Lot Essay

Thomas Sheraton's Cabinet Dictionary, 1803 (pl. 75) described such 'Quartetto Tables' as 'a kind of small work table made to draw out of each other'. A set of such tables were supplied in 1808 for Kedleston Hall, Derbyshire by the Derby cabinet-maker S. Gamble (sold from Kedleston at Christie's, London, 6 March 2003, lot 50).
