Painted with a mountainous riverscape showing a villa with a hut retreat above, in the foreground figures observe a sampan and two men in a waterside pavilion, on the back flowering plants in blue enamel while in the center a long poem is written in black calligraphy, ending in two ruby red seals

Lot Essay

A larger pair of very similar dishes, with long poems on the back by a famous Guangdong poet, were sold Christie's New York, the collection of Eugene O. Perkins, 30 May 1991, lot 66, one having been in the collection of J.A. Lloyd Hyde and shown on the cover of Chinese Painted Enamels, China House Gallery, 23 October 1969.
