Benjamin Chew Wilcocks of Philadelphia (1776-1845) was in the early decades of the 19th century American Consul at Canton and kept a home at Macao. J.G. Lee illustrates pieces from this service in Philadelphians and the China Trade, p. 49. Wilcocks also ordered the famous toddy jugs painted with the Gilbert Stuart image of George Washington (one in the collection of the Henry Francis du Pont Winterthur Museum).
