In the center in colored enamels and gilt the arms of Clifford, a cell pattern on the well and rim enclosing finely painted flower sprays and a basket of flowers and symbols, on the back four flower clusters between narrow gilt borders
8 7/8 in. (22.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The third and most elaborate service made for this family in the 18th century, probably ordered by Charles, 6th Baron Clifford of Chudleigh, who may have been adding more plates and up-to-date shapes to the earlier porcelain. See D.S. Howard, CAPII, p. 415.
