Lot Essay

D.S. Howard, op. cit., p. 259 explains that this handsome service was made for Sir Richard Chase, Sheriff of Essex in 1744, whose distant relative, Samuel Chase, also entitled to these arms, was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
