Appears to be in its original band box, which bears the label "Mark Worthley Manufacturer of Band and Fancy Boxes 119 Washington Street Boston". The box is inscribed in ink on the bottom Comb of Katharina Adams Fenno 1800 great great grandmother of/Property of Bertha Hubert Stringer

Lot Essay

Based on the inscription, this impressive comb was probably owned by Catherine Noyes Adams (b. 1785 Newbury) who married William Fenno in Boston in 1806. However, it may have belonged to her mother, Catherine Fenno (1763-1803), who married Samuel Adams (1759-1796) in Boston in 1781.
