Lot Essay

The date on this drawing is very similar to that of a drawing made in Lausanne and now in a private collection (H. Sieveking, Johann Georg von Dillis, exhib. cat., Munich, Neue Pinakothek, and elsewhere, 1992, no. 111). In 1797 Dillis accompanied Lord Ossulton, son of the 4th Earl of Tankerville, on a tour of Switzerland that included Zürich and Lausanne.
