A SILVER CENTERPIECE DESIGNED BY VERNER PANTON
Verner Panton (1926-1999) trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and was one of the most well-known modernist designers of the 20th century. He worked with the important Danish designer Arne Jacobsen and later opened his own design and architecture studio is 1955 that encompassed all aspects of interior design. He is probably best known for his use of new and unusual materials and specifically the wire frame "cone chair" (1955) and the molded-plastic "Panton chair" (1960). Panton's designs for Georg Jensen reflect the same fresh approach to traditional objects. His 1981 design of a large centerpiece, lot 439, looks like a crumpled sheet of paper.
