A BÖTTGER SMALL FLARED BEAKER (Ranftbecher)
CIRCA 1725
Painted in the manner of J.G. Höroldt with European and Oriental harbour scenes, one side with two merchants at discussion by a chest and barrels before a galleon and two distant ships in a harbour below a cloudy sky, the other with a junk sailing down a canal between figures before a building and other on a fortified wall, with two further ships in the distance below a cloudy sky at dawn, each wiuthin a quatrefoil cartouche gilt with scrolls enclosing Böttger-lustre panels issuing gilt, iron-red and lustre scrolls, the gadrooned foot richly gilt, the rim and interior gilt with entwined meandering ribbons and C-scrolls with pendant dot and husk ornament
