A BÖTTGER FLARED BEAKER
CIRCA 1723-25
Possibly painted by J.G. Melhorn with river-landscapes, one with a wooden shed against a buttressed garden wall, with trees and a schloss beyond, the other with a gothic church spire and other buildings nestling among trees, the towers of a distant schloss visible on the mountainous horizon, within shaped quatrefoil gilt cartouches, each with two straight sides, Böttger-lustre panels and gilt, iron-red and sepia scrolls, divided at the sides with pendant gilt husks and flowerheads suspending large flowerheads flanked by berried branches below, and surmounted above by small oval Böttger-lustre panels supporting drinking and smoking dwarves astride gilt staves issuing foliage, the lower part with a lustre band border and waisted gilt band above the footrim (areas of minute wear)
