CIRCA 1742, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, PRESSNUMMER 1, THE COVER A LATER REPLACEMENT
The jug of baluster form, the white wishbone handle with moulded gilt shell thumbpiece, the spout moulded with a bearded satyr's mask, the ground reserved on each side of the body with scenes painted in the manner of Watteau with figures in landscapes, one scene with a lady at discussion with a Turk, within quatrefoil dark-brown line cartouches, the ground of the domed cover reserved with two small scenes flanking the white and gilt flower finial (chipping to finial, some scratching to ground, two small areas of flaking to gilding on spout, further minute areas of wear)
