A MEISSEN ARMORIAL TEACUP AND SAUCER FROM THE SWAN SERVICE
CIRCA 1740-41, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, DREHER'S * TO FOOTRIM OF SAUCER
Modelled by J.J. Kändler and J.F. Eberlein, the cup moulded with two swans and a heron among bulrushes, a further heron in flight nearby, against a spirally-moulded shell ground, the branch handle with flower terminals, the upper part with scattered Kakiemon sprays divided by the Brühl coat of arms, the interior with a further flower-spray, the footrim simulating the lobed tips of shells, the saucer similarly moulded but with a heron in flight above against a spirally-radiating moulded shell ground, the underside with a similar footrim, gilt dentil borders (areas of very slight wear, cup with small chip to footrim and minute chipping to flower terminals)
