CIRCA 1740, BLUE CROSSED SWORDS MARK, GILDER'S b. (?) MARKS TO BOTH
Painted with estuary scenes, each side with a figure on horseback and merchants by cargo, within mirror-shaped gilt ombrierte cartouches with scrolling foliage, the panels of hatched ornament below centred by shells, with ombrierte insects and Holzschnitt Blumen about the spout and handle, below a Gitterwerk border, the S-scroll handle with an oval gilt diaper panel suspending husks, the spout and rims richly gilt, the domed cover with a gilt ball finial above two estuary scenes within a double concentric iron-red circle cartouche and gilt band rim (minor restoration to spout, small areas of wear to gilding)
