A BERLIN GOLD-MOUNTED RECTANGULAR SNUFF-BOX
CIRCA 1765, THE CONTEMPORARY MOUNTS WITH STAMPED AND ENGRAVED NUMERALS
Painted in a pale palette, each facet with vignettes of ladies in Eastern dress with attendants among palm trees, urns, obelisks, fountains and trellis, with turbanned blackamoor attendants, musicians and two female attendants, the base with a lady in loose robes with a tethered monkey, each vignette above rococo scroll supports issuing flowers, the interior of the cover with a lady bathing by a fountain, one attendant drying her feet, another attending to her hair, an obelisk behind them, a lake and buildings beyond, the upper hinged mount chased with a diaper pattern band (wear to corners of base)
