Identified by her International Code signal letters, V W G M, the ship is portrayed sailing closehauled on starboard tack in a stiff breeze and lively sea, with topgallants and royals still stowed.
Built of iron by Vernon of Liverpool in 1864 to Lloyd's Special Survey, dimensions were 177.2 ' x 28.6' x 19.1', registered tonnage 724. Owned by Myers & Co. of Liverpool, she was employed in their Liverpool to Australia service along with her sister ship CAPE CLEAR", built by the same builder in the same year"
