McCarthy later described this paper as probably THE FIRST PAPER ON LOGICAL AI, i.e. artificial intelligence in which logic is the method of representing information in computer memory, and not just the subject matter of the program. The paper may also be the first to propose common-sense reasoning ability as the key to artificial intelligence. This paper was presented at what was most probably the first international symposium on artificial intelligence. Among the participants were Marvin Minsky, W.S. McCulloch, W. Ross Ashby, Grace Hopper, and Oliver Selfridge From Gutenberg to the Internet 11.6. OOC 781, 809, 878.
