THE FIRST GENERAL INTRODUCTION IN BOOK FORM TO COMPUTER PROGRAMMING. Wilkes, Wheeler, and Gill had published the first textbook on programming in 1951. That book described programs written specifically for EDSAC. In the second edition of that textbook, also published in 1957, the authors applied their ideas to other existing computers, but much of the EDSAC-specific nature of the book remained. In this book, McCracken employs a mythical computer he calls TYDAC to illustrate principles of computer programming that were applicable to all stored-program computers. OOC 783.
