ECKERT-MAUCHLY COMPUTER CORPORATION. "Employment agreement." Carbon typescript, signed by Eckert and Mauchly on the second page. N.p, May 10, 1948. 2 sheets.
In an effort to obtain more capital for the financially struggling Electronic Control Company, Eckert and Mauchly decided to incorporate the company so that they could sell shares of its stock. The articles of incorporation were signed on December 22, 1947, and the company was renamed the Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corporation (EMCC). The present employment agreement, entered into by Eckert and Mauchly a little over four months later, bound each of them to "serve the corporation faithfully and to devote his time and energies to it during the next ten years from the date hereof [May 10, 1948]" (p. 1). If either man left the company before this ten-year period was up, he would not be allowed to engage in any computer-related businesses until the period had expired. OOC 1137.
