The rectangular black marble top above an acanthus frieze and pair of glazed doors fitted with a similar surround, the interior fitted with a single shelf, each angle with a figure of a sea god, the sides centred by winged masks, the wavy apron centred by a bearded mask issuing scrolling foliage, the top of the carcass stamped PRETOT

Lot Essay

The ébéniste Hippolyte-Edmé Pretot (1812-1855) is recorded at 16, rue de l'Abbaye in 1836 and 11bis, rue Saint-Germain-des-Prés in 1841. From 1846 he was located at 3 and 5 rue du Harlay. He exhibited in Paris at the 1849 Exposition Nationale and then in 1852 at the London exhibition where he was awarded a medal.
