Jules Bouy, a native of France, established his first interior design firm in Belgium. Around the time of World War I, Bouy moved from Europe to New York, where he became associated with the French decorating firm, L. Alavoine & Co., and subsequently Ferrobrandt, Inc. Bouy created his own designs and also promoted the metalwork of Edgar Brandt. By 1928, he started his own firm, Bouy Inc., providing his clients with a wide range of styles, including streamlined designs which reflected the urban architecture of the period.
