NAPOLEON BONAPARTE. Printed broadside: Senatus-Consulte, Qui proclame Napoleon Bonaparte, Premier Consul á vie. Paris [4 August 1802]. Imprint: Marseilles, Imprimerie de Mossy [1802]. Folio broadside, 23 x 15.½ in. approximately, bold heading at top, printed in two columns with decorative scrolling foliage between the columns. In fine condition. Matted and in a giltwood frame. Unexamined out of frame.

NAPOLEON IS NAMED FIRST CONSUL FOR LIFE. A dramatic broadside addressing Napoleon as "Citoyen Premier Consul," and declaring, in recognition of his great services to the people of France the Senate has voted to appoint him First Consul for life. Appended are extracts from the proceedings of the Senate and statements by Chaptal, Minister of the Interior and local officials.
