With typical shaped cover and pierced heart and bar thumbpiece, swan-neck handle and domed foot, the handle with touch (Cott O.P.5614A), the underside of the foot with a wriggle-work ownership mark of the letter 'W', some corrosion

Lot Essay

These flagons are of a type well known to collectors, though rarely appear on the market. The unidentified maker E.G. specialised in these bun lid flagons. They were used for both domestic and ecclesiastical purposes ever since the 1603 Act which allowed the use of pewter in the communion service.
