TASSO, Torquato (1544-1595). La Gierusalemme liberata, Paris: Delalain, Durand and Molini, 1771. 2 volumes, 8° (224 x 131mm). Engraved frontispieces of Tasso and Gravelot, engraved titles and dedication leaf, 20 plates, headpieces, 14 small and 9 full-page tailpieces by Baquoy, Duclos, Henriquez and others after Gravelot (plates for canto V and XX misbound in the preceding canto, light off-setting from the plates, some spotting, occasional small ink stains). 19th-century speckled calf by Tout, triple gilt filet border, gilt spines, leather lettering pieces, gilt turn-ins and edges, marbled endpapers (a little worn at extremities, slightly chipped at foot of spine). Provenance: Alfred de Curzon (bookplate). All the vignettes have their titles in Italian, rather than in the French of the later issue.
