COMMONPLACE BOOK. Manuscript commonplace book, a calligraphic compilation by Helen R. Huth, the entries approximately 1879-1905, the literary extracts showing a marked preference for the Romantic poets, decorated with 53 very skilful watercolours, the majority by Helen Huth and showing flowers and scenes around Possingworth [Hurst Green, Sussex], and at Kyleakin, Isle of Skye, and with a number of photographs showing similar scenes, many pages with borders decorated in pen and ink, 132 leaves, large 4to, black morocco, stamped with initials 'H.R.H'; in a mahogany box.
Helen Rose Huth (1837-1924) was the wife of Louis Huth (1821-1905), Director of The London Assurance for Fire, Life and Marine Assurance, and a noted collector of the paintings of James McNeill Whistler.
