The frosted gilt chain fusee movement with separate cocks for the balance, escape wheel and second wheel, jewelled to the third with screwed chatons, English lever escapement with stone pallets, monometallic balance with flat blued steel hairspring and diamond endstone, bimetallic temperature curb, stop-lever impinging on the rim of the balance, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, blued steel halberd hands, in contemporary silver gilt consular case

James Ferguson Cole (1799-1880) was one of the finest watch and clock makers of his time and invented a number of lever escapements for which he took out patents.
