The shaped brass chapter ring with sprung gnomon and engraved with hour scales 3-12, 1-9 on the upper and inner surfaces in Roman and Arabic numerals respectively, hinged to the square horizontal plate engraved with floral designs and a chequer motif in each corner, with folding latitude arm graduated 2°-88° and folding plummet support, pierced and foliate-decorated, with turned plummet, the centrally-mounted glazed compass engraved with a wind rose, four compass directions initialled in Latin, magnetic axis arrow and flat brass needle with jewelled cap, the underside of the compass box engraved with Elevati Poli for seven continental cities, with three turned brass feet
