The case with bell-top surmounted by a re-gilt foliate cast handle, later gilt-brass pineapple finials, pierced brass fishscale sound frets to the sides, the moulded base on fruitwood block feet, foliate gilt-metal quarter frets to the brass-lined front door, the dial signed Willm. Hughes Holborn London on a silvered plaque in the matted centre with calendar and mock pendulum apertures, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced blued steel hands, the spandrels cast as baskets of fruit, strike/silent ring in the arch, the five pillar twin fusee movement with unusual tic-tac escapement and strike on a bell above the plates, the backplate engraved with foliage and signed in the centre William Hughes Holborn London
