A Japanese brass and steel striking kake-dokei with alarm
Late 18th/early 19th Century
The dial plate engraved with scrolling chrysanthemums and centred by a silvered chapter ring engraved with Japanese characters and the Zodiacs, central brass revolving alarm disc with later(?) pierced blued steel hand, the iron movement with rectangular posts, going train with twin foliot verge escapement, the strike train with countwheel strike on a large later(?) brass bell above the plates, the alarm pulley and assembly carried on the frontplate behind the dial and with clapper positioned above, blistered brass wrap-around side doors and back cover
