A Japanese engraved brass kake-dokei with balance wheel and twin calendar
19th Century
The side doors and dial plate engraved with chrysanthemums, twin calendar apertures beneath the chapter ring with revolving silvered Japanese characters and blued steel half-hour markers, the pierced blued steel stationary hand with turned brass securing nut, the going train with verge escapement and large diameter balance wheel with crenellated rim and adjustable weights to the two arms, the strike train with countwheel planted on the backplate and strike/alarm on the bell above the plates
